What is LEED

People ask me “What is LEED and why is a REALTOR a LEED Green Associate?”  Well, that’s a very easy question to answer.  LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and was created by the U.S. Green Building Council. In short, it’s a method for evaluating how green a home or building is.

In Atlanta green homes have become so popular that the MLS (Multiple Listing Service) has even added a field where sellers can input their “HERS Rating”.  HERS stands for Home Energy Rating System and is obtained by an independent green home rater.  For most home buyers in Atlanta green homes are found in EarthCraft single family homes or LEED Certified condominium towers.

Below are some links to additional information on LEED from the U.S. Green Building Council’s website. If you would like to know how to upgrade your home with the latest in green technologies Your Guy for That can point you to someone who can assist you with that.  Or, if you would like to make your next home a green home please let me know and I’ll be glad to send you a list of all the green homes currently on the market in your area.
