RESIDENTS FILE SUIT TO OUST EAST POINT MAYOR

Concerned East Point citizens gathered at 1526 East Forrest Avenue,East Point,GA 30344, on the 10th day of August, 2012, to formally announce a lawsuit to seek judicial removal of Earnestine Pittman, Mayor of the City of East Point in Fulton County,Georgia.  As residents of East Point, they are given this right per East Point City Charter 2-107 .

The suit, filed in the Fulton County Superior Court on August 10, 2012 seeks to remove Mayor Pittman from office on the grounds that she has violated her oath of office, violated the City Charter, violated the City Code, and violated state laws on numerous occasions.

Since taking office in 2010, Mayor Pittman has violated the Open Meetings Act of Georgia on more than one occasion. She continuously violates the East Point Ethics ordinance, with multiple cases still pending. On several occasions, Mayor Pittman has proudly given herself the title of being the “Ethics Board Poster Child” due to the number of complaints filed against her.  She has overreached by violating the City Charter through a multitude of City Ordinance violations, as well as through her illegal use of vetoes.

The Mayor even sued her own City in what she herself has acknowledged was a judicial “stunt” during an election cycle. The residents of East Point may never know exactly how much has already been spent defending against these, as her antics continue.

During Mayor Pittman’s Ethic’s Hearing on July 10, 2012, Mayor Pittman was quoted, “If there is any concern about what I can or cannot do … that’s a court action.”

This was not the first time Mayor Pittman has essentially ‘egged on’ a lawsuit in order to stop her from breaking the law. It may be within reason for any one of the previous hearings to result in a slap on the wrist, particularly when each violation is isolated and viewed by itself. However, when a judge is able to sit down and review all these violations in a comprehensive manner, it is apparent that Mayor Pittman has willingly and egregiously violated her Oath of Office, the City Charter and the City Code with no regard for East Point citizens or the City of East Point’s well being.

The filing of this lawsuit shows that Mayor Pittman is a liability.  She over steps her bounds, with no regard for the law, and needs to be removed from office.
