City of East Point Presents the How I See My City Art Contest!!

The Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) is sponsoring Georgia Cities Week April 20-27, 2013 to showcase and celebrate cities and the many services they provide.

Cities provide a higher level of service than most governments and are generally rated higher by the public than any other level of government, but many residents are unaware of the impact city services have on their daily lives. Through Georgia Cities Week, GMA and related organizations hope to heighten public awareness of the role that city governments play in enhancing the quality of life in communities.

GMA’s Georgia Cities Week is part of an on-going effort not only to raise public awareness about the services that cities provide but to educate the public on how city government works. Cities are encouraged to involve their local schools, businesses, legislators, Chambers of Commerce, media and civic clubs in planning Georgia Cities Week activities.

Old East PointWith this in mind, in honor of Georgia Cities Week, the City of East Point would like to invite all students attending middle school in the City of East Point to participate in an Art Contest entitled “How I See My City.” The City of East Point is sponsoring a citywide middle school visual arts competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent. This year’s competition theme “How I See My City” focuses on viewing the City of East Point through the eyes of a child. Contestants are asked to submit art that depicts something notable about the City, along with a written explanation about their entry to assist judges.

The deadline for submissions is March 25, 2013. The winning artist will be presented with a $50 Gift Card at a City Council Meeting in the Month of April. All entries will be displayed in the East Point Customer Care Center for the entire month of April. All art will be returned to the artist by May 3, 2013. We thank you in advance for your participation!
