East Point Charter School Among High Achievers

EAST POINT, GA – Educators from across the state are visiting seven high-achieving schools on a bus tour, including the KIPP South Fulton Academy.  Located on East Washington Road, the charter middle school is to be a showpiece on the tour, hosted by by the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education.

Groundbreaking for the Atlanta BeltLine Eastside Trail!

Meet me at the Beltline Saturday morning for the groundbreaking of the new Eastside Trail!  It will be a 14-foot concrete path from the new Old Forth Ward Park (behind the old City Hall East) all the way to Piedmont Park!  After the groundbreaking at 10AM there will be a walking tour of the new trail and Atlanta Beltline Dine-Out.

The Atlanta Beltline is one of the most comprehensive economic development efforts ever undertaken in the City of Atlanta and the largest, most wide-ranging urban redevelopment currently underway in the U.S., the Atlanta BeltLine is being developed as a  public-private partnership combining greenspace, trails, transit, and new development along 22 miles of historic rail segments that encircle the urban core.

The Wall Street Journal reports “The Mortgage Bankers Association predicts rates on the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage will average 4.4% in the fourth quarter of 2010, increasing to a 4.7% average in the first quarter of 2011, and climbing to 5.1% by the end of next year. That is barring any ‘blockbuster’ announcement from the Federal Reserve next month, said Jay Brinkmann, chief economist of the MBA”

Free Bulk Pick-Up Week in East Point

The City of East Point, GA has announced that October 25th – 29th will be Fall Amnesty Week offering you the chance to clean out your home for fall. Bulk Pick-Up will occur on your regularly scheduled garbage pick-up day. Be sure to have all items that you wish to have picked up as part of the Amnesty Week out the night before or earlier than 7AM on your regular garbage day.
Bulk pick-up includes items such as sofas, chairs, tables, desks, mattresses, washers, dryers, hot water heaters, stoves, etc. Refrigerators MUST have Freon removed prior to disposal. Lawnmowers MUST have gasoline and oil removed prior to disposal.

In my opinion, until Georgia and the other 26 states step up and stop the banks from foreclosing on people’s homes without going through the courts this problem will not be fixed.

In the past few days several people have asked me what the review or freeze on foreclosures means to them.  Unfortunately in Georgia it doesn’t mean a whole lot.  Each bank is defining their freeze in a different way.  For some it means no more evictions, for others no more auctions and for a rare few it means the whole process is on hold. Very few, if any, banks have actually stopped marketing and/or selling the homes they’ve already foreclosed on that are sitting on their books.
